The 2014 Elevator Pitch Competition was held in Alumni Auditorium Wed, Feb. 26. It was sponsored by KeyBank, with promotional support from BYOBiz, PawPrint & Mail and Shearer Chevrolet.
A field of 57 participants was whittled down to 18 in a preliminary round of pitching for the finals. According to organizer, Bob Bloch, director of the Champlain Build Your Own Business (BYOBiz) program, the competition this year was at a high level and judges scores proved extremely close this year for the competitors. In fact, the scores of the three prize winners in the entrepreneurship category varied by only 1.14%.
The winners are:
Non Profit/Social Advocacy – First, Michael Frekey ’15; Second, Julian Lopez ’17; and Third, Chance Foster ’17. People’s Choice Award went to Julian Lopez.
Job/Internship Seekers – First, Jeffrey Diehl ’17; Second, Katarina Svenson ’14; and Third, William Cruse ’14. People’s Choice Award went to Jeffrey Diehl, who also achieved the highest overall point total of all contestants with 89.3% of potential points.
Entrepreneurs – First, Chelsea Hutchings ’14; Second, Eric Wahlgren-Sauro ’16; and Dylan Seigman ’16. People’s Choice Award went to Annie Del Moro ’15.
Winners received $500 for first, $300 for second and $100 for third thank to KeyBank. They also received business cards from PawPrint & Mail.
